Book Overview

Although conversations consume most of our day, we are not that effective when we listen to each other. We miss much of what’s going on. What we miss makes others cautious – they wonder, “Can I trust him? Will she keep what I’ve said between us? Will I get hurt?” Every conversation is an opportunity to build or damage trust.

This book is a parable about listening skills. It encourages the reader to “see” the skills unfold during a conversation between two people. Although the topic of this conversation is business communication, the reader will easily see how these skills apply in any setting.

Through the conversation between the main characters, Sean and Martin, the reader experiences the skills that show the other person you heard what they said. It also shows how to use questions to gain clarity and understanding, to provoke thinking and to encourage choice and ownership. All of these create a trusting relationship.
